What was originally an acoustic offering on Body Talk Pt.1 serves as the lead single from Body Talk Pt.2, the cautionary "Hang With Me" gets a Robyn-pop upgrade that gives the track more focus and edge than it's strummed contemporary. She keeps up the melancholy on "Hang With Me", encouraging a friends with benefits situation but advising against letting emotions develop as it will just end in heartbreak. An interesting counterpoint to "Dancing On My Own" to be sure. Robyn punctuates the lyrics with the subject of the video, which she spends on tour. A traveling pop singer has little time for love. What the video also proves is that, while they serve as ample tools to promote her across formats, Robyn videos are more like a "gift with purchase" than what really sells her music. These songs stand and attract notice on their own, but please enjoy the video anyway.

Whether it's Las Ketchup, Vengaboys or "Holly Dolly," it is always fun to watch a novelty pop dance song break around the world. Quite similar in feeling to 30s influenced "Doop," "We No Speak Americano" began in Australia and South America before making its way to Europe, the UK and now the US. The collaboration of Australian artists Yolando Be Cool and producer DCUP samples "Tu Vuo Fa L'Americano," a 1950s song by Renato Carsone for a retro-tinged, bouncey pop dance song with staccato stab and bits of period horns and strings. The results are quite catchy and it will be interesting to see how far this song will go in the US. The official video is a fun take on the lovable tramp Charlie Chaplin who just can't seem to do anything right. It's interesting to note that the sampled lyrics are sung in the Neapolitan language, spoken in Naples, Italy. The original song was about Italians trying to become Americans and speaking broken English.

Wow, this is not what you would expect from a Mason track. The Dutch duo behind the massive electro-stomper "Exceeder" and recent WMC fave "Corrected" turn the tables and go melancholy progressive with their new single "You Are Not Alone." The track is hauntingly minimal at first and then builds into a throbbing beat with intense analog noise effects. "You Are Not Alone" seems like the perfect closing track with Lisa Jane adding the hauntingly beautiful vocals on top. Remixes by Paolo Mojo and Zoo Brazil increase the intensity and power with harder electro beats while staying true to the almost somber beauty of the original. The animated video is unlike anything I have ever seen before - simultaneously bleak and beautiful while detailing the nightlife adventures of two eccentric female clubbers.

Doing a dance cover of any Rolling Stones song takes cajones and especially big ones when you choose their edgy 1969 classic "Gimme Shelter." The production is rebellious enough to fit the lyrics - a mix of glitch, noise, electro and 80s synth work. The vocals are reminiscent of singers from the era of industrial dance music (maybe a reference to the Sisters of Mercy version?) Remixes by Caged Baby, Stezza, Kill The Hero, and Streetlife DeeJay ditch most of the vocals but take the track in even edgier directions. As a first taste of Sonik Republik, I anxiously await original material from them.
